How To Grow

Choose a sunny or partially shaded spot with well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Prepare the soil by weeding, loosening it, and adding compost.

Sow Black Eyed Susan seeds in trays or containers with seed-raising mix, 1mm deep. Keep the soil moist. Transplant seedlings to the garden when they have their first true leaves, spacing them 50cm apart.

Water the plants when the soil is dry 5cm below the surface. Avoid wetting the leaves. No extra fertilizer is needed if the soil was well-prepared. Deadhead regularly to encourage more flowers. Cut long stems for cut flowers, removing lower leaves. In cold weather, cut back plants or prune off dead foliage.
